Click your mouse on the pattern piece that needs to be unfolded. Now on to grouping and ungrouping! Every pattern is grouped differently, so you will need to do a little trial and error. Use the sliders located on the bottom and right of the screen to center your pattern. You can zoom by pressing the plus (+) button on your keyboard or go to View>Zoom. Zoom in on the pattern until you can see one of the pieces that needs to be unfolded. Inkscape document properties Step 4: Group and Ungroup You can close the document tab, or use the three dots on the left of the tab to close it toward the right. If you don’t like the way things are snapping (jumping into position), you can change the settings here. The other tab in Document properties that you may want to be aware of is the “snap” tab. You can use centimeters too if that is what you prefer! I also change the units on the top of the document. I first change all of the units to inches. A menu box will appear on the right side of the screen. Inkscape import PDF Step 3: Setup in Inkscapeīefore working, I like to set a few basics in Inkscape. The default settings are fine, so just click “OK”. Find the PDF pattern file you created and open it. Choose “New Document” and a blank canvas should open up. Once you have looked at the “Quick setup” then go to the “Time to Draw” tab. I left everything in Inkscape default, but just know you can change the setup and keyboard options! If you use another keyboard default, then your shortcuts may be different than I show in this tutorial. When you first open up Inkscape you may see this “quick setup section”. To do that, double click on the Inkscape icon on your desktop. Now you will take your prepared file that you created in PDF stitcher and open it in Inkscape. But it is a good time to make thicker lines if you need to! PDF Stitcher Layer settings Step 2: Open pattern in Inkscape Again, this is option! I just left the lines as they were. (Remember Inkscape doesn’t save layers anyway.) You can thicken lines, change the color and/or style if you desire. Also, deselect grid layers if your pattern has them. In the Layer tab, deselect the sizes that you do not need. I decided to go ahead and add large margins, but that is optional! If you need a little bit more scroll room than the pattern gives, make sure to add extra margins. Then, name your new output file and make sure you remember where you are saving it to! Open PDF stitcher and select your input A0 or Projector file. If you need to grade, first learn how to use Inkscape with one size, then you can go back and use all the sizes you need to grade with. To make things a little bit simpler, we will only be working with the size we need.
